Herbal Alchemy: Introduction to Spagyric Preparations

Screen Shot 2018-04-03 at 3.11.16 PM.png

Alchemy is a term thrown around a lot in the world of natural medicines and products, but did you know that it is rooted in a traditional practice? In this class we will talk about the history and tradition of Alchemy as well as the philosophy and cosmology that underlie the Spagyric process and how that is practically applied to plant and mushroom works. Through understanding the historical context and tradition we will look at how to make potent and wholistic medicines from plants and mushrooms that are considered to be living medicines, and learn how to potententiate them by working with their astrological correspondences and influences, taking your understanding of the plants and the planets into a deeper heart centered understanding that can be applied for personal or community use. This class will be an overview of the Spagyric process, a practical introduction, with a demonstration on how to prepare Spagyric Tinctures to raise the potency of any medicines you make.

Jason Scott is a Mycologist, Ethnobotanist and Spagyricist who has studied traditional Hermetic Alchemy, from history and philosophy to practice, for the past 5 years. He has a background in Ethnobotany and Plant Medicine that started on the Big Island of Hawaii, and has carried back with him into his home: the Pacific North West. Born and raised in Oregon, Jason has an intrinsic interest in the Fungal Queendom and all of its aspects: from cultivation and mycoremediation, to historical and cultural relationships. Most specifically their medicinal application. Jason has studied various different healing modalities including Ayurveda in Nepal and Western Herbalism all over Oregon and Washington. He is on an ever-deepening journey of education to understand the practical applications of his interests, and the golden threads that connect them.

Diving Into Spagyrics: To Separate and Re-Enliven A Special Intensive with Jason Scott

IMG_8956.JPG

During this intensive we will dive a bit deeper into the philosophy and practice of Hermetic Alchemy and the practical processes that evolved out of it as they apply to the plants and fungus. Exploring and understanding the cosmology of the universe from the alchemical perspective; dissecting and reassembling our herbal allies in traditional preparation, we will explore the philosophical underpinnings and the practical application of working with plant and mushroom medicines from start to finish. Demonstrating the process with hands on experiments and display of each process that assists in the transmutation of material. Walk away with a unique experience in the practical art of Alchemy, and an applicable knowledge of how to take your healing work to the next level.

We will be teasing out essential oils, starting ferments to receive spirits, and calcining the herbs to attain the salts to fully see and understand the Spagyric process from start to finish.  As time allows we will also explore other processes for seeing and working with the herbal realm, processes often not explored anywhere else. Accessibility is key to beginning the process of the ancient arts, so we will cover the basics of how to acquire gear to make the works available to people on any budget.

Though we will be diving deep into mysterious territory, this class will be considered introductory and accessible to folks on all levels of experience - that also ties together philosophy and practicum in ways that will pique the curiosity of those already versed in preparing spirits or making essential oils.

ANCESTRAL PLANT RELATIONSHIPS

FullSizeRender.jpg

with Lupo Passero & Zach Fisher

Our ancestors come in not only human form, but in plant form as well.  Human beings and plants beings have been co-evolving together for over 200,000 years.  There is a unspoken language between plants and people that our ancestors knew and understood. Deciphering the Language of Plants is an imperative for building and fostering “right” relationships with all living beings. Our ancestors knew each plant and tree intimately and could tell you the story of each species including its medicinal, edible, and utilitarian uses, but more importantly the spiritual and emotional healing virtues as well.

The Ancestral Plant Relationship Series is about re-membering plant medicine in all of its forms and deepening our close and personal understanding of the green world.  We will work with a different plant or tree each class and will include and overview and introduction to the medicinal, edible, utilitarian & spiritual uses. We will spend the day thoroughly getting to know each plant as an individual, will make a variety of preparations with the plant and will end the day with Green Breath, a shamanic plant spirit ceremony which offers the participants a chance to journey into with the spirit of the plant.

All participants will make and take home a pine bark baskets in addition to several herbal preparations.

Sacred Herbs & Healing Waters of Southwest France

Come join us on our annual magical tour to Occitania in southwest France where we combine the magic of local herbs and sacred waters with the divine feminine teachings that are so present in this cherished corner of France.  Here we will be well off the beaten tourist-path, tucked away in the foothills of the Pyrenees; where the local esoteric history reaches back thousands of years.  It is the land of Mary Magdalene, Isis, White Ladies, the Cathars, Knights Templar, Celts and Black Madonnas which all have their part in the great Holy Grail mystery.  It’s a part of our world that until recently, has seemingly been left untouched. But don’t let that fool you. Traveling the small, winding roads of the Languedoc, you will marvel at the beauty and mystery of this sacred land.

Our home base will be in Rennes les Bains which is a famous spa village that dates back over 2000 years to when Roman nobility would “summer” here.  It is a village of less than 200 inhabitants, located on the Salz River with it’s own natural thermal baths.  Every day you will have the opportunity to bathe in the thermal waters that so many have come to for healing for thousands of years. Local lore says that Mary Magdalene baptised and performed healing in this river.

Surrounded by nature in this powerful energetic landscape, we will create ceremony, follow with the eyes of history and take part in daily herbal and energetic healing classes. Community Herbalist and Flower Essence Practitioner Lupo Passero will lead the group on plant walks, talks and botanical lessons throughout the region. Under her guidance we will make herbal remedies, flower essences and water remedies. She will lead us in powerful and loving ceremonies of plant spirit healing. It is against this backdrop where we will meet, interact and study many of Europe’s native plants and trusted herbal allies and where we will immerse ourselves in the local healing waters which are found in the rivers, streams, lakes and springs and create beautiful water essences. You will soon come to understand why the waters here have been revered for thousands of years.

This trip is perfect for all levels of herbal experience; whether you are a beginner, the “budding” herbalist or if you’re an experienced herbalist and would like a deeper understanding of sacred plant medicine. Each day will include time with our herbal allies, interaction with the local waters and time for exploring the rich history of this sacred land.  At the end of this tour, each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Completion to commemorate what we have discovered and learned on this trip.
Twin Star specializes in empowering the Divine Feminine in all of us by leading people to sacred, off-the-beaten path sites, rich in botanical lore.  Our trips encourage individuals to deepen their plant-soul connection.  By gently walking the Earth in these special places, our alliance to Spirit is strengthened.  Through this unification, we come back to our lives and shine the light that we are.

Shamanic Journeying Class Series – 4 Part Series Connecting Heaven and Earth

Screen Shot 2018-04-12 at 3.55.54 PM.png

With Deana Paqua, MA, LMT

Learn the contemporary practice of Shamanic Journeying, based on ancient techniques to connect with the Spirit world to meet with benevolent guides, angels, nature spirits and ancestors for the purpose of obtaining guidance, self-healing and self-empowerment. Safely explore the world of Spirit, meet your Power Animal and learn how to work with helping spirits in everyday life to improve health, happiness, intuition, and connection to Mother Earth.

We will discover the history of Shamanism, how it has transformed as a contemporary practice, and learn about the practices of traditional Shamans and how they differ from other medicine people. We will also cover how to journey safely in sacred space, incorporating energy clearing and protection techniques along with some basic practices from the indigenous healers  and mystics of the Andes.

This is an introductory and foundational course for beginners and more practiced students to learn techniques for their own personal use. Most of us have the ability to journey and no previous experience is needed.

This course; however, is not training to become a “Shaman.” A Shaman is a medicine person who hails from specific tribes in Siberia, Mongolia and a few other places across the globe who have been given this title of honor by their community.

Contemporary Shamanic practices are open to all of us as we honor indigenous and cultures by respecting their titles and traditions, and sharing traditional teachings that we have been given permission to share.  In this way, we work with integrity and learn to connect to our own spiritual power, ancestry and guidance which will truly support our evolution, healing and growth for the highest good of all.

Dates: June 19, June 26, July 10 and July 17th from 6:30-9pm, at Twin Star Herbal Education, 65 Bank Street, New Milford, CT 06776, twinstartribe.com.

To register, contact Deana Paqua at deana.paqua@gmail.com, or 203-994-5045. Cost is $197 for this program including materials ($177 for current Twin Star Students).
