the vessel & the voice

The Art of Teaching Herbal Medicine - A six week practicum

Know what you carry, strengthen your vessel,
find your voice, and carry the legacy forward

Herbalists spend years learning about the plants, and for many, somewhere along the way, another calling begins to emerge, the desire to teach. But becoming an herbalist and becoming a great herbal educator are not the same thing, and there are surprisingly few opportunities to learn the craft of becoming a teacher people trust, remember, and want to learn from again and again.

The Vessel & the Voice is a six-week immersive practicum created by herbalist and educator Lupo Passero, drawing upon more than 25 years of professional teaching experience, for herbalists who want to strengthen their skills while discovering who they are as educators and what makes their teaching unmistakably their own.

Rooted in the idea that every educator carries a unique vessel of knowledge, experience, stories, relationships, and perspective, the program explores how that vessel becomes an authentic voice, both in the classroom and in the way an educator shares their work with the world. This course honors the herbal educator as a storyteller, a community resource, and a keeper of living knowledge, someone who stands within a long tradition of carrying herbal wisdom forward through human relationship and human voice.

What You wIll receive

  • A Stronger Vessel

Deepen your confidence in what you already carry as an herbal educator, including your knowledge, lived experience, stories, relationships with plants, values, and perspective. You’ll learn to trust your strengths, recognize the edges of your knowledge, and continue growing without feeling like you have to know everything.

  • A Voice That Is Truly Your Own

Discover what makes your teaching distinctly yours. Through storytelling, reflection, practice, and feedback, you’ll develop a more authentic teaching voice and begin shaping a recognizable educator identity that reflects who you are, what you care about, and the communities you hope to serve.

  • The Skills to Bring It Into the World

Turn what you know into learning experiences that are engaging, ethical, thoughtful, and alive. You’ll develop curriculum, practice teaching, explore your educator brand, and build practical tools for creating classes and programs that are accessible, sustainable, and rooted in your own unique approach.

At the heart of the program is the vessel, everything you bring with you when you teach, including your knowledge and experience, your stories and teachers, your relationships with the plants, your values, curiosity, perspective, strengths, vulnerabilities, and even the edges of what you do not yet know. Becoming a powerful educator is not about becoming the sage on the stage, knowing everything, performing expertise, or learning to sound like somebody else, it begins with knowing what you carry and learning to carry it with confidence, humility, discernment, and integrity. From that vessel comes your voice, which is much more than the way you speak in front of a classroom. It is the recognizable expression of who you are as an educator, the way you tell stories, the experiences you create, the questions you ask, the things you care about, the people you hope to serve, and the particular perspective that makes your work distinctly yours.

That identity matters both inside the classroom and beyond it, because finding your voice also means learning how to communicate who you are in the world, how you describe your work, shape your message, develop your offerings, build a recognizable presence, and create a personal brand that genuinely feels like you. The brand is not something placed on top of the educator, it grows from knowing who the educator already is.

Beneath all of this is something much older, because herbal medicine has always been carried through human relationship. Long before knowledge of plants could be searched, downloaded, posted, or generated, it traveled between people through observation and practice, through teachers and apprentices, through families and communities, and through stories told in human voices. The herbal educator stands within that continuing tradition, and to teach herbal medicine is not simply to transmit information, it is to become a storyteller, a community resource, and a keeper of living knowledge. It is to help preserve relationship and context alongside facts, to honor where knowledge has come from while participating thoughtfully in where it goes next, and to recognize that there is a legacy and a responsibility in carrying this knowledge forward.

At a time when information is everywhere, when content can be produced instantly and expertise can easily become performance, the distinctly human qualities of an educator matter more than ever, including lived experience, discernment, curiosity, relationship, presence, humility, story, and the willingness to say, "I don't know, but I will help you find the answer."

The Vessel & the Voice is an invitation to cultivate those qualities while honing the craft of teaching itself, to become more skillful without becoming formulaic, more confident without pretending certainty, more recognizable without manufacturing a persona, and more compelling without becoming performative, so that ultimately you can become the kind of herbal educator only you can become.

The future of herbal education does not need more teachers who all sound the same, it needs educators who know what they carry, understand the responsibility of carrying it, and have the skill, courage, and voice to share it well.

The vessel carries the knowledge, and the voice carries it forward.
Know what you carry, strengthen your vessel, find your voice, and carry the legacy forward.

The Vessel & The Voice: The Lessons

Module 1: Shaping the Container

Who Are We Becoming?

We begin by creating the kind of learning space we hope to offer others, one rooted in trust, curiosity, connection, and belonging. We’ll explore our teaching stories, our relationships with herbalism, and the idea of the educator as a vessel, asking what we already carry, what has shaped us, and who we are becoming as teachers.

Module 2: Knowing the Vessel

Finding Your Authentic Voice as an Educator

What happens when we stop trying to teach like somebody else? We’ll explore the experiences, stories, strengths, vulnerabilities, teachers, and plant relationships that shape our individual voices, while looking honestly at imposter syndrome, comparison, confidence, and the places where we are ready to stretch.

Module 3: Holding the Container

The Art, Ethics & Responsibility of Teaching

Great teaching is about more than knowing your subject, it is also about knowing how to hold people well. We’ll explore presence, warmth, boundaries, scope of practice, difficult questions, lineage, attribution, and the responsibility that comes with teaching about health and healing, while considering the kind of learning environment each of us wants to create.

Module 4: Crafting the Learning Journey

How to Actually Teach

This is where ideas begin becoming curriculum. We’ll explore how people learn, how to pace and sequence information without overwhelming students, and how story, conversation, demonstration, reflection, and experience can bring a subject to life. You’ll begin building a class of your own, then explore how that same idea can grow into a deeper course or program.

Module 5: Strengthening the Vessel

Voice, Visibility, Brand & the Modern Herbal Educator

Your teaching voice does not end when class is over. We’ll bring together your story, values, teaching style, audience, message, and visual identity to create a recognizable educator brand that genuinely feels like you. We’ll also explore ethical marketing, where your voice belongs in the world, and how to use modern tools, including AI, without allowing the tools to replace the human being behind the teaching.

Module 6: Sustaining the Vessel

Building an Ethical, Accessible & Sustainable Teaching Practice

Finally, we turn toward longevity, asking how this work can remain financially sustainable, accessible, community rooted, and nourishing enough to continue. We’ll explore pricing, boundaries, accessibility, and the practical realities of teaching, then bring everything together through a supportive teaching practicum and reflect on what we are ready to carry forward.

"Lupo is the consistent, cornerstone and centrifugal force behind these programs. Teaching is her strength and the depth of her experience and sincerity with the subject matter is palpable. I really love the spiritual aspect and the wisdom that she brings to all of her classes."

What makes our Program unique?

The Vessel & the Voice is a one of a kind training devoted specifically to the art and craft of becoming an herbal educator. Created and taught by Lupo Passero, it draws from more than 25 years of teaching herbal medicine nationally and internationally, founding and directing two herbal schools, and developing educational programs rooted in community, accessibility, and outreach. Rather than teaching you more about herbs, this program teaches you how to share what you already know with confidence, skill, integrity, and your own authentic voice. Together we explore the craft of teaching, curriculum design, storytelling, ethics, identity, branding, and what it means to be a distinctly human educator in a rapidly changing world. This is not about learning to teach like someone else, it is about discovering the educator only you can become.

The Vessel & the Voice will gather in 2027, dates to be announced. we will meet once a week for six consecutive weeks, with each live online session lasting approximately 3 to 4 hours. Our extended time together allows space for teaching, conversation, reflection, breakout work, practice, and connection without rushing the learning process.

We offer a limited number of spaces each year to create an intimate class experience.

when we gather

Lupo Passero is a Clinical and Community Herbalist, educator, and founder of Twin Star Herbal Education & Community Apothecary. She began studying herbal medicine in the late 1990s and, somewhat unexpectedly, found herself stepping into the role of teacher, beginning a journey that would shape the next 25 years of her life. Since then, Lupo has taught herbal medicine to thousands of students, both nationally and internationally, while founding and directing herbal schools, developing immersive training programs and apprenticeships, mentoring emerging herbalists, and creating educational experiences rooted in relationship, community, accessibility, and a deep respect for the plants.

Meet Your INSTRUCTOR

Her approach to teaching has been shaped not only by decades in the classroom, but by the experience of building herbal communities, practicing community medicine, organizing grassroots outreach, and continually learning what helps people feel welcomed, engaged, inspired, and capable of carrying herbal knowledge into their own lives and communities.

The Vessel & the Voice grew from those many years of teaching, mentoring, experimenting, making mistakes, listening to students, and finding her own voice as an educator. It is an opportunity for Lupo to share not simply what she has learned about herbal medicine, but what she has learned about teaching it, and to help the next generation of herbal educators discover the teachers only they can become.

β€œβ€œWhat a privilege it’s been for me to have the opportunity to walk this joyful herbal path with Lupo. A passionate herbalist and teacher, she is one of the most dedicated and generous individuals I know. Always growing personally and sharing her wisdom.” ”
